Scirocco Winds, Houston's premiere woodwind quintet, was founded in 2008. The group is dedicated to performing modern works by American composers in addition to classical standards.
The group gave its debut performance at the opening of Houston's downtown park, Discovery Green.Their appearance was part of the Fresh Arts Concerts series and the ensemble was highlighted on the local morning TV show Great Day Houston.
In 2011 Scirocco Winds will begin to record its first CD. The disc is dedicated to music of the US and Latin America and will feature music by Valerie Coleman, Samuel Zyman, Paquito D'Rivera, and more.
